Vanessa's
Story...
This is Vanessa. A Venezuelan, professional Flamenco Dancer. When we first spoke about body painting her as a mermaid she explained to me why it was so dear to her heart. She told me "JoAnna, as a child growing up in my country we would be at the beach all the time. I would swim in the water and practice swimming like a mermaid because when I grew up, that's what I wanted to be." This made me smile.
What a wonderful dream! So, we set out to make her dream come true. Starting in my photographer's studio, I spent 5 hours painting every scale on her body (she actually slept through most of it)! When done, we took some shots in studio until it was time to get to Sunset Beach for our spectacular Sunset photo shoot where we shot many more photos on the rocks, in the water and on the sand.
Afterwards, I waited in eager anticipation to get the photographs from my photographer! After receiving the hundreds of photographs he took of this latin beauty, I pain stakingly edited through each and every one looking for that special shot she would be proud of! I found just the shot and went to work immediately in Adobe Photoshop. This is where I carefully altered and superimposed her mermaid tail, changed the color of it to match her scales and for an added touch, placed a beautiful pirate ship on the horizon.
Voila! Vanessa is now and forever a gorgeous mermaid, her dream has finally come to fruition. The large canvas hanging on the mantel is something classy, tasteful and an instant conversation piece. Now, every time she looks at it, she is reminded of her wonderful childhood, playing mermaid on the gorgeous beaches of Venezuela.
